We are Gréta and Steinar who in 2020 decided to make a lifelong dream come true by buying a farm and moving to the countryside. Horses have always been our life and joy, so to us it came naturally to make it all about those majestic creatures. We now not only breed horses but run a training center for them, with the only horse swimming pool in the country. In addition with the horses we have two cats, Bárður and Ási, as well as our neighbors’ goats and dogs that visit us frequently. Besides horse training and breeding, our passion is to design a beautiful and cozy retreat for our guests.
2023 we decided to build a few luxurious – yet cozy – cottages for tourists seeking tranquillity after an eventful day on the road. We finished building the Áskot Cottages in June 2024. They were designed by Gréta in a late 19th-century northern cottage style and built by local carpenters. The windows and doors and the classic steel exterior are all made locally in Iceland. Houses have been built in this style for decades as it enables them to withstand the Icelandic weather.
We wanted to create a real “home away from home” with emphasis on privacy, peace and pleasure for our guests.
